Collecting Star Wars Role Play Games

Dungeons and Dragons and other roles play games were not exactly my kind of thing. But in the early 1990s there wasn't much new Star Wars stuff to buy. So, I bought a few Star Wars role play games items.

I quite liked the small lead figurines and was almost tempted to open these packets. But, like all Star Wars collectibles, they're better off boxed!

With Star Wars role play collectables, they seem to be available for longer in the shops. Shelf life of Star Wars toy ranges is limited, but role play stuff is similar to books and they can say on the shelf a lot longer.

Made by West End Games, this 40 piece set featurd some characters that (at the time) had not been made in to figures, like the Bartender, Kerru, Muftak, Kabe and members of the Cantina Band.

Collectability/Value?

Like all things Star Wars, these die cast miniatures are collectable, however, I don't think they're as collectable as the vintage action figures, vehicles or playsets. That's probably because your average Star Wars collector may not be interested in role play. To be honest, I only collected them in the early 90s because there was not much new stuff to collect. 

They don't often come up on eBay or other auction sites, so value is a bit all over the shop. I've seen the Cantina set go for less than £20 and over £100. I think the low value sale was unfortunate and  skews the figures. Somewhere towards the top-end is more realistic; £70-100 perhaps. I'm sure sometimes they'll go for more, and as collectors seek to extend their collection beyond plastic figures this could rise.

The smaller role play figures go for around £20 a set loose. Normally something on the original blister package will fetch a lot more, though with role play collectors they may be tempted to get them out and play with them anyway. Nonetheless, I'm sure unopened adds value - £30-50?
